@isabeleliassen Is this the ticket where we discussed also showing discipline status? Showing just the eligibility would be fairly straightforward. The discipline status will depend on if we are ok to return the effective date and the lift date in the public response so that the frontend can determine if the license is still encumbered or not.

Assuming that we can safely return those two fields in the encumbrance data, that change would be a 1, if not, we will need to re-evaluate how we want to handle that so the frontend can determine if the license is encumbered or not.

EDIT: sorry, just saw the next ticket down that talks about discipline status. This ticket here is a 1.

I will double check that we can use start/end date info publicly but I believe that is fine.

I've also just realized that this doesn't account for people who are disciplined at the privilege level only and are still eligible to practice in other states. We will need to revisit to discuss how best to show eligibility/ineligibility in such cases. Rather than a single discipline/non discipline option, we may want to have an alert icon of some kind and the text "see details" or similar for licensees who have any discipline (whether on a license or privilege) and then still rely on the detail view to show discipline or no discipline for each.

Capturing details from another thread for tracking of the API design for this:

Right now, with the way the backend is implemented, the most cost effective solution is for the public search list view to only display a license as restricted if it is expired, marked as ineligible by the state that uploaded it, or the provider has any unlifted encumbrances. The 'restricted' field does not take into consideration whether that license is the 'home state' license or not (it would show any valid license as not restricted). Changing this will require an extensive redesign on the backend which we will want to discuss to ensure we are delivering the intended behavior.

For now, we are proceeding with this behavior, and revisit if needed.

We have determined that we will simply exclude all older licenses from the public search list and detail views, and only display licenses that are the most recent for every type of license that the practitioner holds. I have added a bool flag on the OpenSearch documents to denote which licenses are the most recent license and which are older licenses which will allow us to filter them for public searches.
